Page's Playlist

Check out this great piece that ABC's Nightline of all places did with the Chairman of the Boards who talks about some of his influence and favorite tunes - give it a read and watch the video here.

In other Page news he will perform as part of the Big Easy Blowout: a Mardi Gras Benefit Celebration on January 25 at the Boulder Theatre and January 26 at Cervantes in Denver. Here's some info via Glide.....

All proceeds from the events will benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and Tipitina's Foundation. In addition to Page, the musical lineup will feature Russell Batiste (Funky Meters, PBS), Papa Mali (Rhythm Council), Big Chief Monk Boudreaux (Golden Eagles Mardi Gras Indians) and Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green, JFJO). The two shows will include Mardi Gras decor and activities including silent auctions, raffles, drink specials, food drive, New Orleans themed artwork and more. Euforquestra will support on both shows. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Boulder Theater and Cervantes online.

Live Phish Celebrates Five Years

Boy time flies - has it really been five years since Phish launched it's Live Phish series? It really doesn't seem that long ago since they were at the forefront of the download movement offering up shows basically instantaneously - well within 48 hours - straight to your computer. What would I have given for this service when I was back in college buying box after box of Maxell XL-IIs to send out? But I digress, that's a story for another time.

Well to celebrate this milestone you're going to want to tune into Live Phish Radio at today at 1 PM - EST as Kevin Shapiro will offer up a "From The Archives" show for your listening pleasure.

Trix Are For Kids

I think we all sort of miss a certain Vermont band around this time of year. For four years they took Halloween to a whole new level by covering albums in their entirety - which upped the ante for all bands since. While lots of bands have offered themed shows and tons of covers none have honored the great tradition they started like this....

On Saturday, the Breakfast hosted their 9th Annual Fongoulish Freakout at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT. During the shows leading up to this gig, the band had performed two of its own releases in their entirety, starting with 2003's Bona Fide at Toad's Place on Thursday and then 2006's Moxie Epoxy on Friday. At Higher Ground, however, the band tipped its cap to the environs and offered up a version of Phish's Lawn Boy, which spanned two sets. (via Jambands.com)

I feel a little weird about the whole Phish tribute band thing, but since this is a one-time deal I'll sit back listen and enjoy....

Download This

Just a quick post if you've never heard the Phish Bridge School Benefit shows they are up for grabs over at bt.etree and I highly recommend grabbing them. For those of you that don't know artists are required to play acoustic sets, which is something Phish rarely did - or at least not for more then a few songs at a time. This is some of the most interesting music you'll hear them play, check it out.....

In other Phish news their latest archive release Vegas '96 is currently up for pre-order. Here's some info on it.....

In December 6, 1996, Phish played their debut gig in Las Vegas at the Aladdin Theatre. It was the final show of a 35-date fall tour that stretched across the country, and it was the first in what became a loose tradition of off-the-wall, humorous and irreverent Vegas appearances. This new 3-CD set (available in both Limited and Standard Edition versions) will be released in stores on November 20th, 2007 by JEMP Records and available for download at LivePhish.com.

Vegas 96 is available for PRE-ORDER NOW at Phish Dry Goods. Everyone who pre-orders from Dry Goods will receive "Road To Vegas," an exclusive bonus CD of highlights from Phish's Fall 1996 Tour. Featuring more than three hours of music, Vegas 96 captures the spirit of a band at the peak of its powers pulling out all the stops.

In addition to the three-disc Standard Edition containing the entire concert, a Special Limited Edition Vegas 96 Box Set includes a bonus DVD of archival footage from the show and an extensive 40-page bound photo book in deluxe packaging. The extended "Harpua" encore included on the bonus DVD features a host of special guests onstage including Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde of Primus, multi-instrumentalist John McEuen, yodelers and four Elvis impersonators in a legendary display of Vegas-style sensory overload.

Click here to PRE-ORDER PHISH VEGAS 96 from Phish Dry Goods. We also have a handful of new Vegas goodies at Dry Goods to commemorate this release including T-Shirts, Phish playing cards and dice.

Today is finally the day all us Simpsons fans have been waiting for as the movie hits the big screen - here's hoping it lives up to expectations. Ever is a strong word, and maybe I'm a little biased about this, but didn't you guys forget a little band from Vermont's appearance?

Shake It

Thought this was a cool promotion for the 10th Anniversary of Phish Food Ice Cream.....

"Time flies when you're having fun and when you're one of Ben & Jerry's best selling flavors! Phish Food has made it to the ripe old age of ten. Yes, live music lovers of the chocolaty, gooey, marshmallowey combination that has left crowds clamoring for more, your little flavor is all grown up.

As part of the celebration, participating Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops across the nation will offer a Phish Food shake promotion. On March 18, 1997 the band played at Burlington, Vermont's Flynn Theater with a benefit show that sold out in mere minutes. The WaterWheel Foundation was the recipient of the proceeds, to help focus on the clean up of Vermont's Lake Champlain.

Everyone who purchases the shake will receive a unique code to gain access to 3 FREE previously unreleased tracks from the show at LivePhish.com. Click here to locate a scoop shop near you. Don't forget - proceeds from Phish Food also go to The WaterWheel Foundation!"

So go get yourself a shake and some free tunes!!

HeadPhones Jam

For those of you - like me - that haven't taken the time to go and download the Headphones Jam starting today at 2 PM (EST) you can hear it for phree (yeah sorry about that) over at Live Phish Radio.

Here's some info on just what the Headphones Jam is (via LivePhish)....

The Headphones Jam (also referred to as "Monitor Jam") was recorded near the beginning of the Undermind sessions after Producer Tchad Blake arrived in Vermont and before the band began tracking most of the songs. It was mixed on the fly in The Barn and named because it was recorded while the monitors (in this case headphones) settings were dialed in for the session. Two tracks from the Headphones Jam were used for the Undermind album: "Maggie's Revenge" and "Tiny" (an Undermind iTunes bonus track). A third segment of the jam was played on a 2004 From the Archives radio show on The Bunny. The rest of the complete jam had never been heard outside the band until the Barn Tour Contest in 2006.

The Jam was presented in November 2006 to the winner of the Phish / Sirius "Live In Brooklyn" Barn Tour Contest along with a guided tour of The Barn and autographed copy of "Live in Brooklyn". The contest winner was given the option to hold onto the contest track or share it with the rest of the community. The winner decided to make this jam available to the public and asked LivePhish.com to help distribute it with the request that proceeds be donated to a designated charity. In that sense, it follows in the charitable tradition of other LivePhish.com efforts like "New Orleans Relief" and support of the Mockingbird Foundation.
