Pack It Up Pack In Let Me Begin

Ok so this is going to start out as another Yankees post as I'm watching the game right now. It's pretty amazing to see Jason Giambi catching fire right now. He really hasn't had a great career as a Yankee and he was hitting under .200 a couple of months ago. He looked so lost at the plate that even if the ball was on a tee I don't think he could have hit it - then all of a sudden something clicked. I'll give all the credit to Don Mattingly, but the truth of the matter is that is still find it hard to root for him after the whole steroid debacle and his mystery apology.

So I've been listening to The Hold Steady for the last couple of days and I've been trying to figure out if I like these guys or not. I've definitely been enjoying the cd, but not sure if I'm sold on them or not. They seem to remind me of the boy band LFO in a weird way, essentially based on the fact of they seem to be trying to throw a bunch of random references at us. Is it really that original to spurt a lot of pop culture references like beat poetry over some rock music? Sure it's relatively catchy and interesting, but is it out of the pure fact of clever word play and mentioning things like Tuscon Raiders and Five Alive? It's like 'Hi we're I Love The 8Os: The Band'. But hey it's the summer and aren't you supposed to be listening to slightly cheesy pop music? I'll hold off judgment maybe till the winter and see if I'm listening to it then.
