CYHSY NYE NYC

While the calander still only says September a lot of bands already have the New Year's plans set - yeah I know it seems a little to early to be thinking about who you're going to kiss at midnight. The latest band to announce their New Year's intentions is blogger approved, indie-rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah who will be performing at Hammerstein Ballroom with pre-sale starting next week.

Check out Jambase's list of NYE shows around the country.

Phish Phry

Lots of news to offer up about a certain band from Vermont today...

First up Justin over at Live Music Blog and Andy Gadiel have teamed up for a weekly series they've dubbed Phish Friday which they will offer up some of their favorite choice cuts from the Phab Phour each week. Check out the first three installments - Week 1, 2 & 3. Good work boys, keep the good stuff coming.

Next up the band is opening their vaults for Colorado '88. Here's some info....

We're delighted to announce Colorado '88, a three-CD set of recordings compiled from Phish's seminal tour of the Rocky Mountain State, available now for pre-order, with a Halloween release date. Mastered from the original analog cassette tapes, Colorado '88 contains recordings of songs that, until now, have not been widely traded or heard with such clarity. Several of the tracks found in the collection have never before appeared on an official Phish release.

Having conquered the New England college club circuit, Phish embarked on a storied adventure West. The band played seven shows in ten days to tiny crowds in small bars and restaurants in the ski towns of Telluride and Aspen. Colorado '88 culls, in chronological order, the best of those shows, providing a vivid glimpse into the days before the three and four-night stands at amphitheatres and arenas that would distinguish Phish in the years to come.

The material on Colorado '88 depicts the young band at one of the heights of their characteristic adventurousness. From extended forays into their Gamehendge mythology to classic and obscure covers, to cult gems, Colorado '88 includes much of the hard-to-find early Phish that die-hards have sought after for years. The release gives fans the chance to share the experience of hearing the band in such an intimate setting.

Colorado '88 is available now for pre-order exclusively from Phish Dry Goods and will also be offered for track-by-track download, along with five bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere, from LivePhish.com. For a complete tracklisting and to pre-order Colorado '88, click here.

And lastly while I was enjoying the last show at Summer Stage last night Ernie decided to drop by Irving Plaza to sit-in with Los Lobos for a bunch of songs. Here's the story from Jambands.com....

While fans debated the pros and cons of the Phish’s latest archival release (see below) online, Trey Anastasio appeared with one of his favorite bands last night at New York’s Irving Plaza. Anastasio emerged during Los Lobos’ set for "Road for Gila Bend,” remaining onstage for "Mas y Mas," "I Got Loaded," "Not Fade Away" and "Bertha."

He will also be appearing on Letterman on Monday to promote his new album "Bar 17" - which hits stores the very next day - to perform Dragonfly.

And will be DJ'ing on Sirius on October 3rd....

Tuesday, October 3 from 6 am to midnight ET, Trey Anastasio Will host Trey Day, Vol. 2 on SIRIUS Satellite Radio, during which he will host as a SIRIUS DJ for 18 consecutive hours. Trey will choose and host all of the music selections, including music from his new CD being released October 3, Bar 17 (Red Ink), and, for the first time, will perform acoustic versions of some of them.

Anastasio previously hosted an entire Trey Day on Jam On / channel 17 in November 2005, upon the release of his last solo album, Shine. For Trey Day, Vol. 2, the acclaimed artist will also air never-before-heard recordings of original versions of Phish songs, some recorded in his father’s living room in 1985. Though he has historically kept his family life private, Trey’s daughters Eliza and Isabella will join him for an exclusive SIRIUS interview.

Bad Brains and American Hardcore

Ok I'm not much of a punk fan - I own some of the essentials, but it's not a genre that does much for me other then The Ramones. Despite that there are two things going on that seem pretty cool in the world of punk.

First up seminal punk/reggae/hardcore band the Bad Brains are reuniting to help bid farewell to CBGB's on October 9th and 10th. Tickets go on-sale Sunday at noon here. They also will be releasing a live album aptly titled - Live CBGB 1982 - which hits stores on October 31st.

Second is the movie American Hardcore which if you don't know about it is a documentary the second wave of punk - 1980 - 1986. The movie includes interviews and performance footage from the likes of Black Flag, Minor Threat, the Dead Kennedys and the aforementioned Bad Brains.

Here's the trailer....

Looks great, really looking forward to seeing it.

On Tour

Bob Seger and His Silver Bullet Band looks like they'll be hitting the road for the first time in over ten years to support his new album "Face The Promise" (which has been getting some good press) for an arena tour starting this November.

I think that everyone that grew up on classic rock radio has a soft spot for this guy. Give a listen to any of these Night Moves, Rock And Roll Never Forget and Against The Wind - takes me back to 11th grade.

Here's some live stuff for ya....

This week's Village Voice features tributes to two rock clubs - The Continental and CBGB's. While The Continental will remain open as a bar (it will reopen on October 11th), CB's is rumored to be moving to Vegas - where they'll probably thrive more then they have here in recent years. Good reads - check them out here and here.

Here's Sonic Youth's latest video for "Do You Believe In Rapture" - their tribute to CB's....
